Technical Knowledge Base

Standards, grades & project editions.

A structured reference layer connecting industrial products with applicable standards, material families, grades and historical editions.

How BCUBE maps standards

We do not publish a single universal “all grades” list. Each grade is mapped to the product, governing specification, material family, service/application and edition where it is actually applicable.

Current vs project-specified editions

Technical pages will identify the current published edition while retaining relevant previous editions for procurement searches. Where a project specification names an older edition, the project document remains the controlling requirement.

Fastener standards

Examples include ISO 4014 for hexagon head bolts, ASTM A307 for carbon steel bolts/studs/threaded rod, ASTM A354 for quenched-and-tempered alloy steel fasteners, ASTM F1554 for anchor bolts, ASTM F3125 for high-strength structural bolts, ASTM A563/A563M for general carbon/alloy steel nuts, and ASTM A194/A194M for carbon, alloy and stainless steel nuts intended for high-pressure or high-temperature service. ASTM currently lists A194/A194M-26 as active and states that grade substitutions require purchaser permission.

Examples include ISO 4014 for hexagon head bolts, ASTM A307 for carbon steel bolts/studs/threaded rod, ASTM A354 for quenched-and-tempered alloy steel fasteners, ASTM F1554 for anchor bolts, ASTM F3125 for high-strength structural bolts, ASTM A563/A563M for carbon/alloy steel nuts, and ASTM A193/A320 for specified service bolting.

Pipe-fitting standards

ASME B16.9 is used for factory-made wrought butt-welding fittings; ASME B16.11 covers forged socket-welding and threaded fittings. Branch outlet products require their specific outlet standard mapping.

Flange standards

ASME B16.5 covers standard pipe flanges and flanged fittings through NPS 24; B16.47 covers large-diameter steel flanges NPS 26–60; B16.36 covers orifice flanges; B16.48 covers line blanks.

Standards completeness audit

BCUBE's technical database is being audited by product family rather than by a single generic standards list. The audit separates product standards, material standards, mechanical-property standards, dimensional standards and service-specific bolting standards. This prevents a grade from being presented as universally applicable when the governing specification does not actually cover that product.

Database status: This is the first verified mapping layer. Detailed grade-by-grade chemistry, mechanical properties, dimensions and size limits will be added only after individual specification verification.
